Robocup Junior: Robot competition

On this website you will find information about the Robocup Junior competition. This is an annual robot competition for young people from 8 to 18 years old.

RoboCup Junior encourages the exchange of knowledge, communication and teamwork. School teams build and program robots to play against other teams in one of three disciplines:

  • Rescue for beginners: program a robot to independently make its way through a fictional swamp and eliminate an obstacle that you know in advance.
  • Rescue for advanced riders: here the course is a lot more challenging and its correct composition is not known in advance.
  • Red Robotegem: a socially inspired challenge around robotics aimed at the third grade of primary education and the first grade of secondary education.

RoboCup is an international initiative to promote robotics and artificial intelligence and was founded in 1993. Its aim is to have a team of football-playing robots ready by 2050 that can win against the then reigning world champion. To develop such team robots, there are many technologies that must be combined. Renowned research institutions and universities participate in this competition.
